Tips on Floor Care
FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS:
- When moving furniture across your floor, be sure to slide a piece of cloth
under the legs.
- Place plastic or fabric "feet" under the legs of furniture to prevent scuffing.
- Remove cleats, high heels or sporting shoes before walking across your
floor.
- Don't use a wet mop when cleaning a wood floor. The water can dull the
finish or damage the wood.
- When cleaning spilled food, use a dry or barely damp towel to wipe it up.
- Lay mats at doorways to keep dirt and sand from getting on the floor.
- Sweep or vacuum your floors on a daily basis.
FOR TILE FLOORS:
- When cleaning, only use water and a mild household detergent. Rinse the
floor with clear water and wipe it dry. Never use acid based cleaners or
abrasive powders.
- Use a penetrating sealer once a month on your tile to prevent grout staining.
- To clean grout staining, use a mixture of water and bleach. Let the solution
sit on the floor for up to twenty minutes and mop the floor, rinse it and
wipe it dry.
FOR CARPETS
- Vacuum high traffic areas of the home (hallways, stairs and entry ways)
on a regular basis.
- While vacuuming, push the vacuum forward a few feet, in a very slow and
direct motion and reverse it.
- When choosing a vacuum cleaner, pick one with adjustable, rotating brushes.
These are great for removing ground-in soil.
- Always vacuum your floor prior to using any type of wet cleaning method
on your floor.
